Concepts

Akuko has a small vocabulary, and the rest of this site assumes it. Each entry says what the thing is and points at the page that covers it properly.

note

This page is an orientation, not a specification. It describes the usual shape of each concept so the rest of the documentation reads clearly; the exact behaviour, the options and the exceptions live on the pages linked from each entry.

Account

The identity that owns things. Spaces, Sources and Posts each belong to an account.

Space

A shared workspace holding Sources, Posts and the people working on them. Members are given a role in the Space, and that role decides what they can do inside it.

See Spaces.

Source

A connection to data — an uploaded file, a sheet, a database, or a connected service.

How a Source reads your data, and how it is kept current, differs by type.

See Sources.

Source View

A saved, reshaped version of a Source. A Source View starts from one Source and can bring in others alongside it, so data can be prepared once and reused by several Posts.

Dimension

A thing you can group or filter by — categories, names, dates, places. A Dimension's type is what decides how it can be used.

See Dimensions.

Measure

A number that gets aggregated — a count, a sum, an average. A Measure is not a column but an instruction for combining values, so "how many records" and "average age" are both Measures.

See Measures.

Geometry

The shapes or points that let a Source's rows be drawn on a map.

See Geometries.

Post

The thing you build and share — a page of charts, maps, tables and text. A Post is either created inside a Space, so the people in that Space can work on it, or kept personal to you.

See Posts.

Component

A block inside a Post — a chart, a map, a table, an image, a filter, a piece of text. Some Components display data from a Source; others, like a title, show only what you put in them.

See Components.

Folder

A way to group things so they can be shared together, rather than granting access to each one separately.

See Managing Posts with Folders.

Dashboard

Your personal home listing — the Posts on your own account, gathered in one place.

It is a place in the app rather than something you author. In Akuko, the page of charts you build and share is a Post — if you have met the word "dashboard" used for that elsewhere, Post is the word used here.
